For decades, arriving at New Street railway was a quite depressive experience. With underground platforms, general lack of natural light and oppressive environment, it was voted in 2003 as one of the UK’s ugliest buildings.
Now, Birmingham New Street Station has undergone a £600m metamorphosis as part of a wider £750m revamp of the area. Natural light is flooding in to the atrium, while the concrete facade has been replaced by gleaming steel panels. An undulating stainless-steel cladding added dynamic and vibration to the space. It was transformed into a major transport and shopping hub, stimulating economic growth and regeneration in Britain’s second city.
Effisus Ecofacade solutions were used for protection of façade components against chemical aggressions, as well as for protection to the environmental agents.
