KAFD Metro Station

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

Description:

The King Abdullah Financial District Metro Station in Riyadh is one of the most iconic and architecturally ambitious transport hubs in the Middle East. Designed as a key interchange on the Riyadh Metro network, the station serves the heart of the KAFD – a major financial and commercial district positioning Riyadh as a global business centre. Its dynamic, flowing geometry and complex structural form make it both a functional piece of infrastructure and a landmark of contemporary design. As a new-build project with high passenger capacity and exposure to Riyadh’s extreme climate, the station required a building envelope capable of delivering long-term efficiency, durability and high environmental performance.

Applied Effisus Solutions

To meet the stringent facade performance requirements, the project incorporated the Effisus Vapour FR System as the air and vapour control layer (AVCL). This non-combustible A1 fire-rated membrane provided a continuous and reliable barrier across the facade assembly, reducing condensation risks, protecting insulation integrity and ensuring airtightness throughout the building envelope. Its robustness under extreme temperatures and its fire-resistant properties made it an ideal choice for a major public infrastructure project of this scale.

Our Added Value

The use of the Effisus Vapour FR System ensured that the station’s complex facade geometry remained fully protected against moisture transfer and uncontrolled air leakage, critical factors for energy efficiency and interior comfort in a high-traffic environment. By stabilising internal conditions and maintaining the performance of thermal insulation over time, the system supported the station’s operational efficiency and contributed to lower maintenance demands. Its A1 fire classification offered enhanced safety for both passengers and staff, while its seamless integration into the facade build-up aligned perfectly with the architectural vision. Effisus played a key role in reinforcing the resilience, efficiency and long-term durability of this landmark metro station.
