ExCeL Phase 3

London, United Kingdom

Description:

ExCeL London is one of the UK’s leading exhibition and convention centres, hosting major international conferences, cultural events and large-scale exhibitions each year. Phase 3 of its development focuses on the expansion of key areas within the venue, ensuring it continues to meet the growing demands of global events while improving visitor comfort and operational efficiency. As part of the renovation works, upgrades to the facade’s interior build-up were required to enhance airtightness, thermal performance and overall environmental stability, critical factors for a building that must perform reliably regardless of occupancy levels, equipment loads or external conditions. This extension is a net zero carbon ready building, constructed using 50% recycled steel and targeting a BREEAM Excellent rating, demonstrating client’s commitment to climate resilience and responsible construction.

Applied Effisus Solutions

To strengthen the interior facade assembly, the project incorporated the Effisus Vapour FR System. This non-combustible, A1 fire-rated, air and vapour control layer (AVCL) provided continuous airtightness across the internal facade components, reducing condensation risks and preserving insulation performance over time. The membrane’s fire safety classification, durability and resistance to moisture and temperature variations made it particularly suitable for a high-capacity public venue such as ExCeL London.

Our Added Value

By integrating the Effisus Vapour FR System, the renovation works achieved a significant improvement in the building envelope’s interior performance. The system ensured effective control of vapour diffusion and air leakage, contributing to a more stable indoor environment and increased energy efficiency, key requirements for a facility that hosts thousands of visitors and operates complex HVAC and event-support systems. Its A1 fire rating added an additional layer of safety, essential for a public assembly building. Effisus contributed to delivering a more resilient, efficient and future-ready venue, supporting ExCeL London’s continued role as one of the UK’s premier event destinations.
