Description:
Located in Dubai South, Al Maktoum International Airport is planned to become one of the world’s largest aviation hubs, designed to handle up to 260 million passengers per year once fully completed. The renovation work involves the upgrading of the terminal’s roof structure, including the integration or refurbishment of skylights and rooftop units as well as extensive gutter and drainage systems to ensure performance, durability and resilience in the intense desert climate. The architectural design emphasises expansive spans, abundant natural daylight through roof-elements such as skylights, and an overall high-tech, highly sustainable infrastructure.
Applied Effisus Solutions
For the roof renovation project, Effisus Bond FT solution was applied on the skylights and rooftop units to ensure secure, durable bonding and sealing under high solar loads, wide temperature fluctuations, and long-term exposure. Simultaneously, the Effisus AllTiteGutter system was deployed across the gutter joints to manage water runoff effectively and maintain integrity of drainage in a challenging desert environment.
Our Added Value
In an environment as demanding as Dubai’s desert climate, with high heat, intense solar radiation, sand-laden winds and heavy use, the selection of our Effisus systems brought critical advantages. Effisus Bond FT system ensured that skylight and rooftop unit interfaces remained tightly sealed and bonded despite movement, thermal cycling and exposure, thereby reducing risk of leaks, loss of thermal performance or maintenance interventions. The Effisus AllTiteGutter system reinforced gutter integrity by providing robust joint-sealing and water management, protecting the roof structure and envelope from moisture intrusion and ensuring efficient drainage.
Together, these solutions supported the airport’s ambitious operational goals by enhancing durability, reducing maintenance needs, and preserving the architectural vision of expansive, high-light, high-performance roof elements. All installation and upkeep were carried out discreetly and without the use of heavy equipment, ensuring that the terminal’s clean aesthetic lines and structural expression remained undisturbed, while still delivering robust, long-lasting sealing performance.
