Haramain Railway Station

Jeddah, Saudi Arabia

Description:

The Haramain Railway Station in Jeddah is a key node on the 450 km high-speed link that connects the holy cities of Mecca and Medina, with this Jeddah station serving as a major gateway.
Designed by Foster + Partners, the station features a sweeping vaulted roof supported by freestanding structural “trees” and an elegant mashrabiya-style façade that both references traditional Islamic architecture and responds to the harsh desert climate by controlling light and offering shade.
The building is planned to handle up to 20 000 passengers per hour and to function as a highly efficient, comfortable, and visually iconic transport hub.

Applied Effisus Solutions

The Effisus Vapour FR System was applied to ensure reliable air- and vapour-tight connections in this large, climate-challenging infrastructure. The Effisus TiteGutter3 system was used at gutter joints to seal and manage water runoff effectively around the large roof overhangs and vaulted structures.

Our Added Value

In a project as large and technically demanding as the Haramain Railway Station, our contribution centred on enabling high-performance sealing solutions that aligned with both the architectural ambition and the operational demands of a major transport hub. Choosing Effisus systems ensured durable interface sealing and effective gutter-joint management in a desert environment characterised by extreme temperature variations, intense solar exposure, sand-laden winds, and continuous passenger flow. By reinforcing the building envelope’s integrity and minimizing the infiltration of air, water, or dust, our solutions enhanced occupant comfort and safeguarded facade, roof, and structural finishes over years of intensive use. They also supported the station’s high-capacity railway function, delivering systems capable of accommodating movement and load while maintaining long-term reliability. Importantly, the membrane and gutter-joint solutions integrated seamlessly with the building’s architectural vision, interfacing discreetly with the vaulted roof forms, deep overhangs, and perforated cladding to protect performance without compromising aesthetic or structural expression.
